Moretonhampstead Food, Drink and Arts Festival

Our first outing of the season took place last Saturday, when the Dartmoor Magazine trailer appeared at the festival in Moretonhampstead. For the fourth year running the weather was kind and apart from a little early morning mizzle there was no rain (and it was much warmer than in 2011). We had a brilliant day, selling lots of magazines and subscriptions, as well as the odd book and binder, and catching up with masses of friends and contacts. I was accompanied by Jamie Dunbar of the Dartmoor Archive, who brought along a selection of archive photos of Moreton and the surrounding area, which certainly helped to draw people to the stand! Thanks to Jamie for his moral and physical (re moving the trailer!) support. It was a hugely successful day, with over 90 exhibitors and non-stop throngs of visitors. The organisers are to be congratulated on their efficient execution of what is a massive event for a small Dartmoor town.

Our next outing should be the Letterbox Meet at Lee Moor village hall on Sunday 25 March, and the following Saturday (31 March) at Castle Drogo to mark the start of Active Dartmoor week. We'll also be at Devon County Show for the first time this year, at the kind invitation of Charlotte Faulkner of Friends of the Dartmoor Hill Pony.
